On May 10, 2025, Megan and Tyler got married and celebrated at The Samoset Resort in Rockland, Maine. DJ Chris was honored to serve as their wedding DJ, providing music for their indoor ceremony, a separate cocktail hour setup, and uplighting for their reception in the grand ballroom. The energy and emotion were contagious — even before the ceremony began.
Samoset Resort Highlights
The Samoset is located on the coast of Maine, and its outdoor spaces are typically used more often for weddings than the indoor options. But with the unpredictable weather that comes with spring in New England — where it could be 70 and sunny or a total downpour — Megan and Tyler chose to host their day indoors. While the location was a bit different, the general setup of the day remained the same — as it always does.
The Ceremony – Not Your Typical Wedding DJ Needs
The Samoset is unique in that they have an in-house team dedicated to supporting ceremonies held on their property. Whether indoors or outdoors, their team manages the sound setup. Your wedding DJ is still responsible for providing music and handling the necessary cues — and this is where Chris took the lead. When a change in attendance meant the processional song needed to be shortened, Chris made a custom edit on the spot to better match Megan’s vision. Working closely with Kayla, the Samoset’s on-site wedding coordinator, they brought the timing and details together seamlessly.
The Cocktail Location (A Professional DJ Please!)
The resort always hosts cocktail hour in a separate location. When the wedding is indoors, cocktail hour is held upstairs. If the cocktail hour is outside, it’s typically on the green behind the tent. Both locations are easy to access and manage — but you need a professional wedding DJ to handle sound across multiple spaces.
At Portside, our team comes equipped with a high-quality, battery-operated sound system that’s perfect for cocktail hours in separate locations. Having this setup on hand allowed Chris to easily manage Megan and Tyler’s custom-curated cocktail playlist without missing a beat.
We take pride in curating something unique and meaningful for every couple — because no wedding, no couple, and no crowd is ever the same. While guests enjoyed cocktail hour, Chris was breaking down ceremony equipment and double-checking his DJ software in the ballroom to make sure everything was dialed in for grand introductions.

To kick off the celebration, Megan and Tyler chose a high-energy mix of songs for their grand introductions: Nickelback – Burn It to the Ground, Black Eyed Peas – I Gotta Feeling, AC/DC – Thunderstruck, Pitbull – Give Me Everything, and Kanye West – All of the Lights. It’s not often that couples use more than one or two songs for introductions, so this approach definitely set the tone and got the party started.
As their wedding DJ, Chris helped manage all the transitions, keeping the energy flowing while making sure the timing was just right. After the full wedding party was introduced, guests were asked to find their seats while Megan and Tyler got ready for their first dance to Cooper Alan’s Take Forever (Hally’s Song).
Once open dancing began, two of the biggest crowd-pleasers were Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance with Somebody and Shania Twain’s Man! I Feel Like a Woman. To close out the night, friends, cousins, and siblings all came together for a run of classic pop-punk anthems and mid-2010s rap and urban hits.
