The Storm and the Celebration: Katie & Sean in Kennebunkport
Katie and Sean’s wedding on September 6, 2025, was a masterclass in navigating the unpredictable elements of a Maine coastal summer. Set on a stunning private property in Kennebunkport, the day was defined by a dramatic weather shift that tested every logistical plan, yet ultimately highlighted the couple’s resilience and joy.
Weathering the Storm
The day began with a ceremony at a local church, then moved to the private estate for an outdoor, tented reception. While it poured for much of the afternoon and a tornado warning loomed, the rain created an intimate, cozy atmosphere inside the tent.
Initially, Katie and Sean’s portraits had to be taken under the canopy to stay dry, but in a stroke of luck, the sun eventually broke through. This allowed them to explore the neighboring property and capture additional photos against the rain-washed landscape.
A Masterclass in Tent Production
Executing a high-end wedding during heavy downpours requires rigorous technical preparation. Providing clear, balanced sound for nearly 200 guests under a vinyl tent meant managing complex acoustics.
- The Setup: A distributed speaker system ensured that speeches were heard clearly in the back of the tent without overwhelming those in the front.
- Safety First: With wind-driven rain and potential power surges, the use of battery backups and specialized equipment covers was essential to keep the music playing without interruption.
From Soulful Melodies to a Packed Floor
The evening’s musical journey perfectly reflected the couple’s tastes.
- Cocktail & Dinner: The atmosphere was set with a blend of timeless classics and modern favorites like Ray LaMontagne and Noah Kahan.
- The Party: Once the formal elements concluded, the energy shifted. The dance floor remained packed from start to finish. A standout moment occurred when the groomsmen hoisted Sean onto their shoulders, a pure celebration that energized the entire tent.
Despite the elements outside, the focus remained entirely on the celebration inside. It served as a powerful reminder that with the right preparation and a great crowd, even a storm can’t dampen a perfect wedding day.
