Tops’l Farm’s Multi-System Audio Design
Kathryn and Thomas’ wedding at Tops’l Farm required a thoughtful, intentional approach to audio coverage across the entire property. One of the biggest advantages of hosting a wedding at a venue like Tops’l Farm is the variety of unique spaces available for different portions of the day, but that also creates logistical and technical challenges that require experience and planning.
For this celebration, DJ Chris Bouchard of Portside Productions designed and operated multiple independent sound systems to support each phase of the event while maintaining consistent sound quality, reliability, and intimacy throughout the day.
Ceremony Audio Across The Street
The ceremony location is positioned across the street from the main reception area, requiring a completely separate ceremony audio setup. Tops’l can provide power for the ceremony if needed; however, it is easier on everyone if the DJ/performers can be self-sustaining and have their own battery-operated gear or power sources. Tent Audio For Dinner & Toasts
Following the ceremony, guests transitioned to the reception tent where separate audio coverage was needed for cocktail hour, dinner music, and toasts.
For this portion of the event, DJ Chris used a dedicated, powered sound system under the tent, designed specifically for speech intelligibility and even music coverage across the dining space. The system was configured to provide balanced sound levels throughout the tent without overpowering conversations at guest tables.
To support the tent setup while maintaining flexibility with the venue, Chris incorporated battery pack solutions, including professional-grade portable power systems similar to Jackery units, to supplement traditional powered equipment where appropriate. This hybrid approach allows for cleaner installations and dependable operation while adapting to the unique layout requirements of outdoor and semi-outdoor wedding environments.
Transitioning Into The Barn For Dancing
Once dinner and toasts concluded, the celebration moved inside the barn for dancing and late-night energy. Rather than attempting to stretch one system across multiple disconnected spaces, DJ Chris Bouchard operated a dedicated dance-floor audio setup optimized for the barn’s acoustics and energy.
- This allowed the dance portion of the evening to have:
- Higher output and fuller sound for dancing
- Controlled bass response appropriate for the barn structure
- Independent lighting and DJ performance setup
- Faster transitions between portions of the event
Multi-location weddings often require more than simply “bringing extra speakers.” Every space on a property has different acoustic characteristics, power availability, guest density, and performance expectations.
