Emily and Chris’ Intimate 1774 Inn Wedding | Phippsburg DJs

Emily and Chris’s wedding at the 1774 Inn in Phippsburg, Maine was rooted in family and a small friend group. The proof is in the pudding as their guest count was less than 18.

From the earliest planning conversations, it was clear this wedding wasn’t about checking boxes. It was about creating a space where people could slow down, gather, and genuinely experience the day together.

A wedding day with no defined timeline

One of the most defining choices, guided by DJ Chris Bouchard, was that Emily and Chris opted for a first look. This allowed them to spend time together early, ease into the evening, and mingle with the guests during cocktail hour. Adjustments to the ceremony time were discussed openly, always guided by DJ Chris with flexibility and trust.

With a smaller group in attendance, that decision shifted the day’s tone. Guests weren’t waiting for the couple to appear, and we had plenty of time to enjoy the unique cocktail hour music we collaborated on.

The Music Guided the Energy

Emily came into the planning process with a strong sense of music because she’s a dancer at heart, and the day’s soundtrack mattered deeply to her.

Cocktail hour and dinner music were curated thoughtfully, starting softer and gradually building energy as dinner progressed. This subtle progression encouraged guests to transition naturally from conversation to celebration without any abrupt shift or announcements.

A Very Special Mother-Daughter Dance

One of the most emotionally significant moments of the day was Emily’s dance with her mother.

Set to “The Best Day” by Taylor Swift. Emily described her mom as her best friend, and the dance honored their close relationship but also her late father. It was a moment layered with love, and that sentiment continued through her mom’s speech during dinner. We let the song play in its entirety so that Emily and her mom could enjoy the emotion and memories it evoked.

Lighting atmosphere & quiet enhancements

Uplighting was placed along each tent pole, designed to complement the bistro lighting already in place. Inside the barn, along the pillars and the perimeter, we added uplighting as well. Emily’s favorite color is pink, and the decision for pink uplighting in the barn was a no-brainer!

The Dance Floor

As the evening transitioned into open dancing, Emily made one thing clear: she planned to be on the dance floor.

Music requests were handled thoughtfully, filtered through the overall tone of the night. The dance floor stayed full with a mix of wedding classics and unique EDM versions of popular songs of the past and present.

The final songs of the night were chosen intentionally. “Flightless Bird” by Iron & Wine brought things inward and reflective followed by “Give Me Everything” by Pitbull because DJ Chris got that “One More Song” chant!
