For Anna and Ben’s wedding, that meant navigating the coastal elements and preparing for a high-energy transition into the barn.
The Maine Weather
Planning a ceremony on the front lawn of the 1774 Inn offers one of the best backdrops in Maine, but it also means being ready for the “Plan B” at a moment’s notice. When the rain began to move in during the ceremony, the value of a veteran vendor team became clear.
While many prefer the look of lapel microphones, we opted for high-quality handhelds to combat wind noise and ensure every word was captured despite the weather. By using independent, battery-powered speaker systems, we were able to maintain a clean, cable-free aesthetic on the lawn while remaining mobile enough to pivot as the rain dictated.
The Phippsburg Flow: Lawn to Loft
A wedding at this property is a journey through different environments: the open lawn, the tented dinner, and finally, the historic barn. Managing the “energy gap” between these spaces is where the programming becomes essential.
For Anna and Ben, we curated a soundscape that bridged indie-folk and modern R&B. During dinner in the tent, the music remained atmospheric, focusing on the “vibe” rather than the volume.
However, once the party moved into the barn, the strategy shifted. We utilized the loft area to centralize the dance floor, creating an intimate, high-intensity environment that kept the momentum moving.

The “Pink Pony Club” Moment
Every great reception needs a “moment” that signals to the guests that it is time to let loose. Anna and Ben executed this perfectly.
Mid-way through the night, the couple surprised the room by donning pink hats and hobby-horse pony heads, charging onto the dance floor to Chappell Roan’s Pink Pony Club. It was a brilliant, irreverent pivot that broke the formality of the day and set the tone for the rest of the evening.
